Eight Tips for Setting and Achieving Your Goals in 2025

The New Year is a great time to set goals for the year. But, if you’re like almost all of us, sticking to your goals can be tough.

In this blog, we give you eight tips for setting and achieving your goals in 2025.

We draw our inspiration from the Japanese concept of Kaizen, which means continuous improvement. Kaizen takes the pressure off. Instead, the focus is on turning up, celebrating small wins and slowly building up momentum in a low-pressure way.

Here are the seven tips that we’ve found provide success in setting and achieving those new year goals. Enjoy.

Our Eight Tips for Setting and Achieving Goals for 2025

  1. Build up: Set a few short goals (things for this month), a few medium term goals that build on the short term goals (things you’ll do in the first 6 months) and a few long term goals building on the medium term goals (things you’ll do sometime in 2025). Here’s an example – by January, I will run for 5 minutes. By July, I’ll run for 20 minutes. By the end of December, I’ll run for 40 minutes.
  2. Start ridiculously small: Want to exercise? Do one push-up. Seriously. It’s about starting, not perfection. It’s about showing up, even if that means just one push up or only five minutes of cleaning.
  3. Consistency is key: Tiny daily or weekly actions beat sporadic big efforts every time. Think snowballs, growing over time.
  4. Celebrate the small stuff: Ran for a minute? Drank water instead of soda? Did one squat? Pat yourself on the back. Wins are wins are wins.
  5. Pair habits together: Waiting for coffee? Do a little run around the block. Brushing your teeth? Do a squat. Going to the mall? Run up the stairs instead of taking the elevator. Stack new habits onto old ones and your brain will pair the activities together over time and you’ll find the wins come more easily.
  6. Keep tracking easy: Skip fancy apps. A tick on a sticky note works just fine. Maybe you prefer spreadsheets or a notebook? Whatever your preference, start simple and easy. The wins come from starting, not from an expensive app.
  7. Adjust as needed: Slip-ups happen. Reset and keep going. Be kind to yourself and give yourself a break. Progress beats perfection.
  8. Always ask “what’s next?”: Every small win builds momentum. Today it’s one push-up; tomorrow, it’s two.

This approach works because it’s simple and sustainable.

Tiny wins feel good—and good habits stick. Over time, those small steps lead to big transformations.

Oh – last but not least – remember not to set too many goals. Start with two or three. If you achieve those and do more, great. But don’t overwhelm yourself. It’s better to achieve two or three goals rather than create ten goals that never get done.

Ok, friends. That’s our eight tips for setting and achieving your goals in 2025. We hope they help you as much as they’ve helped us here at Besu.
