Frequently asked questions.

The three-task limit is based on cognitive load science (see below on the science behind Besu). We know from science (and experience) that too many tasks will stress out your brain. Besu is designed to help you focus on your top three tasks in each category.

Most other to-do apps will let you wander into an endless maze of to-do tasks and unneccessary features and connections and bells and whistles and ... OMG, WILL YOU STOP IT MR TO-DO APP? Chill, bro.

When you can only have 3, you're forced to ask: "Is this actually important?" We believe this helps this helps more than anything else in to-do land.
Our defaults categories are Work, Home, Health, Personal and Family. Those seem to cover the majority of our lives.

But you can have any five you like. Just change the title and awayyyy you go. Like a rocket. To Mars. Or something.

Besu is built on a few pieces of research to simplify your to-do list. It's not just a pretty face and chill vibes (I mean, it is both those things but it's so much more. Because no-one puts baby Besu in the corner).

Miller's Law — You and me and most humans can comfortably hold 7 items (±2) in our brains. Three focus tasks across five categories sits well within that limit. So your brain can focus on the tasks vs feeling overwhelmed.

The Zeigarnik Effect — Turns out, incomplete tasks sit in your brain and zap your mental energy. Even when you're not actively thinking about them. We cap focus tasks at three to help your finish your focus items, and stop them from stealing your mental energy.

Chunking — We know from science (and experience) that the brain organises information better when it's grouped into meaningful categories. Our five default areas (Work, Home, Health, Personal, Family) reflect how most people actually live. But, but, but, you can change them to fit your personal situation.

They go to your Backlog. Each of your five categories have their own Backlog.

Tasks sit there until you decide to promote one to the Focus tab. Move your tasks back and forth between Focus and Backlog as much as you like.
Yes. Free, free and free. We may include premium features later-on for those that need a little more. But the core app will always be free.

No catches. No creepy stuff. Just a good, simple and free to-do app.
You can choose to use either Google signon or magic link sign-in. With the magic link, you enter your email, click the link in the confirmation email, and you're in, baby. No password to remember. Your data syncs to your account so it's available on any device.

And if you decide to leave (sad emoji, sad emoji) we'll delete all your information so no nasty hacker-bros or hacker-people can get your information.

And we never, ever, ever sell or share your information with anyone. Because (a) That's gross, and (b) We're not Meta.
We're planning add some shared boards in the future. But we haven't built those yet.

For now, please share Besu with friends and family if it might help them. Then, when avaiable, we can link your accounts with others if you'd like. Or not. You choose.
You can add notes to any task. The comment icon appears on the Focus or Backlog tab when there's a note attached to a task.

Useful for things like phone numbers, links to documents or jogging your memory before the coffee has kicked in.
